Rocky Mountain National Park
The RMNP was formed in 1915 as an act of the Federal Government. The park enclosed Longs Peak and surrounding areas, but not the town of Estes Park, or the land of Shep Husted.
The year before the park was established, efforts were being made to identify place names in the park that had existed prior to Europeans arriving in the area. To help in identifying these indian names for peaks, rivers, etc., a trip was organized to take several Arapahoe indians through the area to learn of the old indian names.
